THE USE OF METHYLMETHACRYLATE APPLING MOULAGE IN PLASTIC SURGERY

Abstract

|
Cranio-facioplasty is increasing in plastic surgery, due to not only for protection of the content of the skull but also for aesthetic purpose.
We have used the methylmethacrylate for augmentation of the depressed bony defect in face, but it has some problems such as tissue damage due to heat production during the polymerization and difficulty for balanced shaping during the operation. Then we applied the moulage for exact fitting and avoidance of thermal injury of soft tissue.
We have operated on eight cases of facial bone deformities using the moulage and methylmethacrylate with good results without any complication. This results show that the methylmethacrylate is superior because of its accuracy, reliability, simplicity and aesthetic potential.
